High Power Microwave Narrow Band Test Systems
Ktech is currently designing and fabricating several Narrow Band Test Systems (NBTS). This work is being performed under contract for Directed Energy Test and Evaluation Capability (DETEC). The NBTS subsystems are packaged within a single ISO shipping container, or "transportainer." The environmentally controlled container encompasses the entire system. It is divided into two sections: the system area, which houses the equipment, and the operator area, which houses the control and data acquisition systems. The system area houses the pulser, source, and support equipment.

NBTS-A has one pulsed power system that drives three RF source tubes that together cover the 1.0-1.7 GHz frequency range. The entire pulser and RF source suite is palletized. All support systems, such as the cryopump compressor, oil circulation system, and power supplies are contained on this pallet. This pallet allows for the system to be removed from the transportainer for major maintenance and overhaul. All connections from the palette to the container are easily disconnected quickly. The operator’s area is an EMI-shielded screen room built into one end of the transportainer. This screen room is shielded from the microwave and x-ray radiation produced by the source, and environmentally controlled to protect the test range personnel and ensure the safe, comfortable internal operation of the NBTS-A; however, if needed, the system can be operated from a remote location using a fiber-optic link patched into a test range trailer as far as 50 meters from the operators control room.
